Get Involved
Schools
Unfortunately, we are currently only able to work directly with a small number of schools. If your school isn’t one of these, there is a still a lot that you can do yourself.
Learning about Farms
The LEAF Virtual Farm Walk is a fun and interactive way to learn about farms, full of loads of fascinating facts and games. http://www.virtualfarmwalk.org/ If you want to visit a farm, then contact LEAF directly (http://www.leafmarque.com) and ask about their Demonstration Farms and Open Farm Sunday.
Learning about Markets
To understand the vital, and often forgotten, role that wholesale markets play in the food supply chain, you can watch a video following the journey of a cauliflower from a field in Kent, through New Covent Garden Market in London and into one of London’s top hotels. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkLNdy0-Oq0
To visit a wholesale market and learn first hand about what goes on while we’re all sleep, you can visit the Association of London Wholesale Markets’ website to find your local market http://www.aolm.co.uk/about.
Grow a garden
If you want to get growing and want some help and advice, then we recommend signing up to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening (http://apps.rhs.org.uk/schoolgardening/default.aspa) who can help you with everything from starting-up your garden (including free seeds!) to expert advice and career development for teachers and support staff.
Join our community
If your school is taking party in any of the activities above, then we’d love to hear about how you’re getting on and what you’re learning. So why not create a school profile and start blogging and sharing your experiences.
To do get your profile, email Alastair Owen at alastair.owen@cgma.co.uk or call 020 7501 3490.
Markets
If you’re a market operator and would like to get involved with your local schools and engage with your local community, then why not become an official Sprouts Market.
We’ll help you with information and advice about setting up a schools project and also set your schools up on the Sprouts website so they can share their experiences with other member Schools.
Becoming a partner is completely free and is designed to make it easier for you to start your own schools project, as well as giving the schools access to loads of information and advice.
For more information please contact Alastair Owen on alastair.owen@cgma.co.uk or call 020 7501 3490.
